Position Overview:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Horticulture, the Gardener/Landscaper will prepare, construct, and maintain horticultural, landscape and turf elements at city parks, facilities and within the road allowance.

Responsibilities:

In addition to the duties outlined above, the following is an overview of responsibilities of the position as it relates to the operational area it will be located within.

Reporting to Horticultural Supervisor:

  • Working dependently or with a crew planting/maintaining various sites throughout the city.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment and ensure tools are cleaned and maintained.
  • Complete various assigned duties in the fall/winter seasons including roadside leaf collection and winter control.
  • Accurately complete activity reports and daily logs. All activities are required to be carried out in an efficient manner.


Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of landscape and horticulture practices and procedures, supported by multiple years of relevant work experience. A degree/diploma in horticulture, turf management or a related field would be considered an asset. Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills are required to be successful in this position. Applicants will also possess a valid class DZ driver's license or be able to obtain, with a clean driving record. Familiarity with the Ontario Traffic Control Manual Book 7 would also be considered an asset. This position may be required to work weekends or shifts.

Hourly Rate:  $23.43 (90% of job rate $26.03)
