HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE - OPERATIONS
(6 month contract)

We want you to join us as member of our dynamic and collaborative Operations team! Working in a cross functional and growing municipal environment, you will be responsible for all training related activities as it relates to the health and safety for the Operations team. You will work with internal service area stakeholders to develop Standard Operating Procedures and related policies and risk hazard assessments, as well as ensure that the department is meeting all legislated requirements for health and safety. As part of the overall corporate health and safety program, you will receive duties/assignments from the Manager of People & Talent and the Manager of Legal Services/Clerks including but not limited to training, ergonomics, and health and safety policies/programs. You will provide hands on training or coordinate with external facilitators/trainers to provide training on operations equipment, facilitate ergonomic reviews and provide ergonomic recommendations regarding equipment, tools and vehicles, and maintain health and safety training records, certificates and re-certification requirements. We are seeking a driven self-starter who is adaptable to our changing municipality and wants to make an impact on our corporation and the community around us. Your Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related subject, or an equivalent combination of three (3) years of demonstrated occupational health & safety experience complemented by a post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Landscape Technology / Construction, Property Management or Environmental Horticulture and Urban Forestry or suitable equivalent. Your education is complimented by a minimum of three (3) years of municipal Operations experience (Parks, Facilities, Roads, Arena), along with two (2) to three (3) years of experience in Workplace Health and Safety, including training staff on safe operation of vehicles and equipment. You will be required to be a certified Train the Trainer on various health and safety related topics including but not limited to, Working at Heights, WHMIS, Lockout, and Confined Space Awareness as well as various vehicles, trailers, large and small equipment. A valid Class G driver’s license is also required along with a reliable vehicle to use for site visits, as well as flexibility to attend evening meetings and other events.
