MANAGING AND MAINTAINING YOUR SPORTS TURF INFRSTRUCTURE

A comprehensive three (3) day training and development program providing participants with current and evolving information and practices related to providing safe, quality public outdoor sports facilities. 

Objectives

  • provide current and timely information, principles and best practices, to assist staff in their responsibility to maintain outdoor sports facilities in an efficient and effective manner
  • present the information in an interesting and re-enforced style, utilizing a variety of delivery mediums, including power points; DVD's; career experiences; and presentations from industry experts- e.g. grass seed, fertilizer, irrigation and wise water management, lighting, etc.
  • challenge participant engagement through situation, problem solving, case study situations
  • ensure ongoing available reference resources and materials by providing each participant with a comprehensive course information binder.

Day 1 Introductions; Participant Expectations; Course Overview; Today's Challenges, Issues and Trends; Benefits of Grass and Sportsturf; Soil Types, Function and Drainage

Day 2 - Review of Day 1; Characteristics and Selection of Grasses; Fertilizers and Nutrient Management; Cultural and Maintenance Best Practices; Plant Health Care; Irrigation and Wise Water Management; New Field Construction and/or Major Renovation

Day 3Review of Day 2; Overview of Common Outdoor Sports Facilities, including natural grass and artificial surfaces, lighting, etc; Weather and Outdoor Sports; Risk Management; Maintenance Equipment; Final Review; Course Test
