This comprehensive 3 day training and development program provides participants with current and evolving information and practices related to providing safe, quality public outdoor sports facilities. The course provides current and timely information, principles and best practices, to assist staff in their responsibility to maintain outdoor sports facilities in an efficient and effective manner. This course will challenge participants engagement through situation, problem solving, and case study situations.

  • Characteristics and Selection of Grasses
  • Challenges, Issues and Trends
  • Cultural and Maintenance Best Practices
  • Weather and Outdoor Sports
  • Soil Types, Functions and Drainage
  • Irrigation and Wise Water Management
  • New Field Construction and Major Renovations
  • Common Sports Facilities
  • Fertilizers and Nutrient Rich Materials

This course is worth 3 credits towards your Parks Practitioner Designation

For this session we require a classroom that can accommodate approximately 30 people and that has a projector with screen and a whiteboard available. Having a sports field (specifically a Ball Diamond) nearby is an asset.
